Better access, better visibility: ImmiAccount paper visa import is now live.
From 23 July 2025, the Department of Home Affairs has introduced a new functionality for Child, Long Term Resident, and other Family visa applicants. While these visas must still be lodged using the paper form, you now have the option to import your application into ImmiAccount once it’s been acknowledged by the Department.
This means less uncertainty and more control over your visa process.
What’s New in the ImmiAccount paper visa import feature?
Once your paper application has been received and acknowledged, you (or your authorised representative) can log in to ImmiAccount and import the application. From there, you’ll be able to:
- Upload additional documents
- View any correspondence from the Department
- Update applicant information
- Track the current status of your application
- Lodge a Bridging Visa application
- Submit an online withdrawal form (if needed)
This functionality applies to both new and existing paper applications, unless they were lodged before specific cut-off dates (more on that below).
Visa Subclasses Covered
The following visa subclasses are eligible for this new online import function:
Child and Dependent Visas
- Child (subclass 101 and 802)
- Adoption (subclass 102)
- Dependent Child (subclass 445)
- Orphan Relative (subclass 117 and 837)
Carer and Other Family Visas
- Carer (subclass 116 and 836)
- Aged Dependent Relative (subclass 114 and 838)
- Remaining Relative (subclass 115 and 835)
Others
- New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship (subclass 461)
- Former Resident (subclass 151)
Who Can’t Use This Feature?
If your application was lodged outside of Australia before the following dates, unfortunately, you won’t be able to use this import feature:
- Before 1 April 2020: Child (101), Adoption (102), Orphan Relative (117).
- Before 25 June 2020: Aged Dependent (114), Remaining Relative (115), Carer (116).
If your application was submitted after those dates, you’re good to go.
How to Import a Paper Application Into ImmiAccount?
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide:
- Create or log into your ImmiAccount
- Go to the section for “Import an Application”
- Enter:
-
- Your Application ID (found on the acknowledgment letter)
- Your Date of Birth
- Your Passport, ImmiCard, or Titre de Voyage number
You’ll now be able to see your application online and access the available digital tools.
Why This Matters?
Paper-based visa applicants have long faced delays, uncertainty, and difficulties in updating their applications or sending documents. With this new system, you can stay informed, take action, and respond quickly to any requests from the Department all from one dashboard.
